I maintain a classroom website that is used by parents and students. This website was inspired by my mentor teacher, Mary Wever, and her classroom website. I update my website and use it to communicate to families what we are working on in the classroom. There are many useful websites and helpful videos to support and extend student learning. |
iMovieAt the MSU College of Education Technology Conference, I learned how to use iMovie for classroom video editing.
Here is what stuck with me...... 1. Videos were meant to be landscape. I wish I would've known that before I recorded a handful of vertical videos on my phone! 2. iMovie can be used on the iPhone. I thought that it was just for iPad and Mac. 3. WeVideo is another useful video editing tool. |
YouTube and Vimeo
I created multimedia goal statements for my application to the Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program at MSU. It was a fun learning experience. I had watched videos on YouTube and Vimeo, in the past. Though, I had no experience with creating and uploading my own videos. It was fun to apply what I learned at the College of Education Technology Conference. I used iMovie to create both of these trailers on my iPhone.
iPads
At Oakwood Elementary, we had a cart of iPads available to the whole school. I was able to check out multiple iPads to use in my classroom. I used iPads during my centers, teaching kindergarten. My students were introduced to a variety of apps. The kids navigated to the apps well because they were in a folder labeled Kindergarten Literacy and Kindergarten Math.
I also used my personal iPad to use Google Translate and find pictures to communicate with English Language Learners during my teaching internship.

LeapFrog Tag Readers & MP3During my kindergarten Reading Workshop, students were able to read using LeapFrog Tag Readers. These were a great gadget for my emergent readers. Students were able to practice one to one correspondence and comprehension. The Tag Readers motivated students to read.
Teaching the Daily 5 in fourth grade, our students had the option of listening to audio books on the mp3 players. This was an especially useful tool for my English Language Learners. |
GoNoodle & Just Dance KidsGoNoodle was an excellent resource for my kindergarteners. We used it during built in music and movement time, throughout the day. Students were motivated by these brain breaks. It was also a great source for problem solving. My students would do some relevant math, figuring out which brain breaks would have the right amount of time to bump us up to the next level.
During my internship year, I was introduced to bringing dance into the classroom. Our students would dance at the end of the day. We would choose appropriate songs from Just Dance. In my first year teaching, I used Just Dance Kids for my kindergartners. This activity got kids moving promoted following directions. We have fun being active! |
Augmented RealityTo go along with lessons to learn about Chinese New Year, my kindergartners used ColAR app. They practiced fine motor skills while coloring their pages. After all their hard work, it was rewarding to see their pictures come to life!
For Parent Teacher Conferences, we created an augmented Wonder Wall using Aurasma. Students sketched a self portrait for their trigger image and recorded videos about what they were wondering for their overlay. Parents had an interactive bulletin board display to discover while waiting for their conference times. |
Flipping the ClassroomDuring my internship year at Red Cedar, I was able to learn how to Flip the Classroom. We used our technology time to teach our Geography unit. My mentor teacher, Mary Wever, created a wikispace for the students to use.

Digital Citizenship and Online SafetyOutside of our classroom, our bulletin board was a spoof on Facebook, called Facespace. This displayed our classroom community and highlighted things we were learning. Inside the classroom, we had whiteboards for status updates. We used these to teach students about internet safety. These status updates also provided authentic reading and writing opportunities for our students, as well.

Google Drive & BloggingDuring technology time, we taught students how to blog using Weebly for Education. Students each created their own website and were able to blog. I integrated their blogs with social studies Economics lessons. Students responded to the prompt on their blogs and were able to voice their opinions. This was an authentic writing and reading experience for our students and got parents involved and commenting on their child's work.
These websites were private and password protected. Through our continued learning about internet safety, students were able to earn the privilege to have their blogs go public. Students learned how to use Google Drive. We taught them how to create and share. This was an extremely useful tool that is relevant to current technologies. I integrated this technology in social studies Economics lessons and during Writing. |
Assistive TechnologiesTechnology is not just something that plugs in. Technology is choosing the appropriate tool for the job. I have used many resources and learning tools to accommodate my students needs so that they can be in a successful learning environment that caters to their needs. Tools that I have used for my students include various fidgets, wiggle seats, cube chairs and balls, angled clipboards, check in systems, etc.
